A Piper J-3 Cub at Embrun Ontario
The Piper Cub is a small lightweight aircraft built by Piper Aircraft between 1937 and 1947. At first this airplane was made for training but became one of the most popular aircraft ever made. The Piper Cub was painted yellow and this caused it to become know as the Club Yellow or Lock Haven Yellow. Many of these Piper Cub's are still loved and flown today. One of these aircraft in good condition usually sells for $30,00 today, but in 1946 a new one cost only $2,500. Piper sold about 19,073 Piper Cub J-3, L-4 planes during the time they were built.
Today some of these beloved Piper Cub's are modernized and new engines put in them to make them capable for use by bush pilots and comparable to the more modern aircraft.
One funny thing about the Piper Cub J-3 is that when flown solo the pilot will sit in the back seat for
balance purposes. The reason for this imbalance is that the fuel tank is located at the firewall. Some later ones were redesigned with the tanks carried under the wings.
On this page you will find 1946 piper cub and other Piper Cub airplanes to buy. Plus manuals and parts.
