Plymouth Barracudas for Sale 1965 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S   Photo License Plymouth produced the Plymouth Barracuda (sometimes called the Cuda) from 1964 to 1974. The first one was the Plymouth Barracuda in April of 1964.
Executives at Plymouth wanted to name this car "Panda" but wiser heads prevailed and the Barracuda name was chosen. Panda might have been cute but most guys like a fierce sounding name for their hotrods.

The early Plymouth Barracuda was similar to the Valiant car in the wheelbase, hood, headlamps, windows and bumpers. This saved designing time and money on making the new model. There was a lot of competition between the Plymouth Barracuda and the Mustang (Pony Car). The Mustang usually out sold the Cuda so Plymouth installed a 273 Commando style engine to increased its output to 235 bhp (175 kW). Then in 1965

1967 marks the second generation for the Plymouth Barracuda. It was completely redesigned with a special sheet metal style only for the Barracuda. Models included convertibles, fastback and notchback hardtops. One Cuda change in 1968 was that the lights didn't have reflectors and then in 1969 there were rectangle reflectors without lights.

1970 saw the Plymouth Barracuda redesigned again with only coupe and convertibles models. These had a shorter and wider body and were no longer called an economy car. The Cuda models included the base Plymouth Barracuda (BH), luxury Gran Coupe(BP) and the sport Cuda (BS).

In 1974 the energy crisis came and the 1975 Plymouth Barracuda never made it past the drawing room. Customers wanted energy efficient cars.
Now the Plymouth Barracuda is a hot collector's item. The cars demanding the higher prices are the factory, meaning no changes were made to them, factory original. On this page you will find a lot of Plymouth Barracuda's for sale. Included are service manuals and parts.
