1971-1973 Boat Tail Styling Buick Riviera
The Buick Riviera is a full size luxury coupe produced in the United States. All together around 1,127,261 Buick Riviera automobiles were made. 1973 was the first year of production and had a different body shell than other car models of that era. A lot of new cars will have a body style similar to something already successful, but not for the Buick Riviera. It had a frame similar to the standard Buick frame but was more short and narrow.Photo found at: Wikipedia Encylopedia
In 1981 the Buick Riviera was given a new look making it more aerodynamic. This made it possible to compete in NASCAR. Then in 1988 the Buick Riviera underwent a radical change. It changed to front wheel drive with a V6 engine instead of the V8 and didn't add a turbocharger. Buick was aiming to attract customers who wanted a luxury car instead of making it fast. But this idea backfired and with profits dwindling Buick quickly changed back to the older style their customers loved and in 1990 the Buick Riviera was returned to being what it once was
