In 1911 a Kansas farmer, Clyde Cessna built a wood and fabric plane and became the first person to fly between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains. Cessna Aircraft Company is headquartered in Wichita, Kansas and specializes in small, piston-powered aircraft and medium-sized business jets.
