Corvettes for Sale. 1958 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster The Chevrolet Corvette sports car has been produced by Chevrolet since 1953. At first the car was made in Michigan and Missouri but now is assembled in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Bowing Green also has a Corvette Museum and hosts the National Corvette Homecoming.

The Corvette was named after a frigate, which is probably the frigate warship built for speed and maneuverability. The first Corvette was hand built and the body made from fiberglass, which was revolutionary at that time. Steal was needed for the war and hard to get. The car also had a "Blue Flame" engine, special two speed automatic transmission and drum brakes.

The second generation of the Chevrolet Corvette started in 1963 to 1967. It had a special design called the Q Corvette. It had a distinctive rear split window, ornamental hood vents and independence rear suspension. Because of safely issues the special split rear window was discontinued. The ornamental hood vents were eventually stopped because it made the Corvette design to cluttered.

The third generation from 1968 to 1982 was designed after the Mako Shark II concept car. Chevrolet tried to keep this new Corvette secret until they were ready to unveil it but Hot Wheels, the famous toy car company, released the new Corvette in their line several weeks ahead of time. This actually helped to advertise the car to the public.

The forth generation of the Chevrolet Corvette ran from 1984 to 1996. 1983 was skipped because of production difficulties. The only 1983 Corvette around is a prototype found at the National Corvette Museum.
